I purchased this canvas painting as an oil reproduction for my mother as it was one of her favorite painting which she has always wanted. I obtained this from the internet from a company called Portrait Painting Inc.

The oil painting which was painted on to canvas shows the house maid leaning on one arm asleep at the table. The table is covered with a patterned table cloth and has fruit and wine placed on it. In the background of the painting you can see an open wooden door which leads out into the hallway of the house.

This painting was part of Jan Vermeer large collection which was sold on the 16th May 1696. The portrait was then bequested by Benjamin Altman in 1913 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Under the terms of the bequest the portrait can not be lent to any other person.
